Even through dealing with anxiety and life's circumstances, Irish TV and radio personality Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh has got an undeniable strength and resilience that she's picked up along the way in life.
Last September, Bláthnaid withdrew her sexual harassment claim against RTÉ which alleged that she was sexually harassed, victimised, and isolated during her time at the workplace.
While the case was withdrawn and RTÉ denies the allegations made by Bláthnaid, when she was asked if she felt she stood up for herself, she told the Irish Independent that she 'tried to'.
'It’s over now. Sometimes it’s just being heard. That’s the most important thing,' the presenter told the publication.
While she sometimes still feels 'triggered' from day-to-day radio conversations surrounding topics of sexual abuse or harassment, she now has the tools to deal with it.
Initially, she struggled to get passed it, as she shares: 'You put it aside. You have a baby. You try to move on. But every time I tried to move, it still pulled me back because I hadn’t really got closure on it.'
Last September, the case was dismissed as it was said that both parties 'were happy to draw a line in the sand' as regards the claim made and the subsequent withdrawal of the claim.
At this juncture, she works for Nationwide after taking over from Mary Kennedy back in December 2019. She is very passionate about her role, primarily meeting people and hearing their stories.
Lending an ear to other people to try and lift them up, Bláthnaid really hopes the same kindness is afforded to her with her story and vulnerabilities.
She shared that she hopes 'people believe I'm real because I am'.
